{Encryptics’ John Cohen Named ABC News National Security Contributor}

Frisco, Texas – February 26, 2015 – ABC News announced yesterday that Encryptics’ Chief Strategy Advisor John Cohen has been named a national security contributor for the network.

A 30-year homeland security and law enforcement veteran, Cohen will cover national security, counterterrorism, intelligence and law enforcement on all ABC News platforms and programs.

“John is a recognized and decorated leader and expert on public safety and counterterrorism,” said Encryptics’ Chief Executive Officer Mitch Scherr. “I know ABC News, and their viewers, will benefit greatly from his unsurpassed knowledge and keen perspective.”

At Encryptics, Cohen provides strategic direction for the company, utilizing his experience to help clients mitigate threats and protect data around the globe. Cohen previously served as the acting Under Secretary and Principal Deputy Under Secretary for Intelligence and Analysis at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), responsible for gathering, analyzing and disseminating critical intelligence to a range of public and private sector partners. Cohen also served as the DHS Counterterrorism Coordinator overseeing the development and implementation of Department-wide counterterrorism activities and programs. He led the Department’s efforts to establish multi-disciplinary programs focused on countering violent extremism, preventing and responding to mass casualty/active shooter attacks, improved information sharing and expanding DHS’ interactions and collaboration with faith communities.

Earlier in his career, Cohen served at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, as a top-level homeland security advisor to the Governors of Massachusetts and Arizona, at the Office of National Drug Control Policy, and as a senior investigator for the House Judiciary Committee. He began his career in law enforcement as a special agent for the Navy Investigative Service in Los Angeles. He also served as a detective and SWAT team member in Gardena, California, winning the Medal of Valor for his actions.
